About The Event
The Muse's Creative Adventure
The Muse's Creative Adventure is a twelve-phase cycle based on the mythic journey, a pattern of narrative that expresses the repeating, universal themes we all face, across time, place and cultures. Over a series of sessions, you will create a collection of Muse Mirrors® that reflect the qualities and characteristics you need to navigate each phase of your own life's creative adventure.
Although it’s it’s not necessary to start at the beginning of the cycle or to move through all twelve phases, it’s strongly encouraged. The benefits of Kissing the Muse can occur in a single kissing practice and no previous art-making experience is required. Adults only, please.
Phase 1: Daily Dance - Happy Homelife Muse
(home, identity, work, family, stability, comfort, security, place, roots, community)
The Happy Homelife Muse reflects your daily routine, including mind, body and soul. She’s the arrow that says “you are here,” on a map that includes the surrounding area. What does “here” look and feel like? What does “home” mean to you, past and present? Which people (or creatures) make up your family? What other relationships shape your daily interactions? If you were living in a movie, which genre would it be? Drama? Romantic comedy? Tragedy? Adventure?
Even when all is not going well, your Happy Homelife muse represents what comforts and sustains you. She is also the true north that guides you when bigger choices must be made. When you slow down your racing thoughts and connect quietly to yourself, what matters most? What do you feel? Who do you think you are? How do you feel about your current place and purpose? Who do you aspire to be? The Happy Homelife Muse is your anchor point, a touchstone who reflects the fire in your hearth.
Your muse can help you harness the transformative power of art making and storytelling to solve problems, gain insight, achieve goals, and more confidently navigate the cycles of change in your life. Playfully dubbed “kissing the muse," this active, creative mindfulness practice will help you improve any area of focus—work, family, relationships, health, even your finances—by revealing your personal narrative and empowering you to change it. Kissing the Muse uses collage-making, storytelling (narrative therapy), and Jungian psychology to help you discover the themes of your inner narrative and identify areas for improvement. What’s working for or against your “hero’s” purpose? What makes your muse want to sing?
The muse is a mirror of our innate, creative potential. Kissing the muse brings us face-to-face, metaphorically, with the blank page or empty canvas of our lives - the untamed, uncharted territory of unlimited possibilities. Whether we’re creating art, love, or our own life’s adventure, embracing our inner muse can help us navigate the process more intentionally, intuitively, playfully, courageously, and gracefully.
How Kissing the Muse Works
We make meaning of our lives through the stories we live out as we interact with each other. These stories are shaped and constrained by the stories that are carried in our social, political, and interpersonal contexts--the narratives of myths, movies, novels, advertising, family legends, and fairy tales. Such stories contribute to the ideas in our culture that we take for granted as realities.
But you can experience alternative storylines in your personal narrative and learn to reframe and rewrite your story, with themes and plots that are more empowering, more satisfying, and more hope-filled.
Kissing the Muse casts you as an artist, lover, muse, and explorer in the starring role of your life as a “creative adventure” story. When we frame our work and lives in this context, each experience, action, and conflict takes on a different significance; even the seemingly mundane mistakes and failures become meaningful and necessary to the story. These road bumps, plot twists and frustrations ultimately move us forward, shaping and transforming our character as we strive to fulfilll our desires and dreams. Eventually, we come to see ourselves as the empowered star of our own life’s movie, while simultaneously playing a more intentional and supporting role in the world.
No previous art-making or creative writing experience is required. Workshop fee: 10 euros.
