Hi there! I'm Robbyn Layne, a writer, creative producer, transformative teaching artist, and the creator of Kissing the Muse. Founded in 2014 in the Netherlands, my boutique consultancy provides writing and editing services, creative project support and bespoke learning adventures for businesses, non-profits, and individual clients.

I'm the author of Kissing the Muse: A Messy, Magical Creative Adventure, a hybrid memoir/mentorship course, and the creator of The Messy, Magical Muse - Illuminate Your Creative Path to Happiness, a colorful, creativity-inspiring 65-card deck.

My passion for creative adventures began in the 90s when I landed my first gig as a line producer for an agency in Kansas City, Missouri. The role had me zipping around the globe — writing, producing and directing destination videos for the  Northwest/KLM airlines account. It was a pretty glamorous job for a humble, midwestern girl.

But I soon realized that living spiritually and personally connected to whatever “turned me on” creatively was far more important than my "cool" job, so, I went freelance and followed my heart to San Francisco. There, I met a wild band of creative bohemians who epitomized my idea of what it meant to be an artist. I began crafting my own personal, poetic film collages using found 16mm footage, eventually earning a spot in an MFA program at San Francisco State University. 

Upon graduation, I again landed a dream job — associate professor of transformative art for John F. Kennedy University’s Arts & Consciousness department.  So, like any aspiring, naive academic, I decided to write a self-help book based on everything I  “knew.” But my muse had a better idea: not to write a book, but to live one.

Since then, my rich and varied professional path has found me bicycling by moonlight in a downpour through a Costa Rican rain forest, dancing onstage in New Orleans with a Zydeco band and crafting folk-art-inspired stuffed animals by candlelight to raise funds for orphanages in Malawi and Uganda. I now live in Amsterdam with my British love, a Dutch cat, and a very small Aussie Doodle named Zigy.

These tales are the subtext by which I measure my career and success: the strange twists, wild characters, and unexpected joys that have taught me to embrace ambiguity, adapt to my environment, and creatively collaborate to solve problems with both my head and my heart.

At the core, my work is not just about writing or producing great stories that stick — it's about inspiring people to live them.
